Use of cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your computer when you browse a website. In common with many other websites, Legal & General use cookies for a variety of purposes.

Legal & General use 'first party cookies' in a general way, to gauge use of our website and measure response to our publicity and site usage.

Legal & General will not use data from which you can be individually identified in conjunction with data that tracks general user behaviour.

Most browsers are set to automatically accept cookies and if you're using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Netscape Navigator you should be able to configure your browser to restrict or block cookies, or you may wish to delete them.

For example, you may decide to delete or block the tracking cookie(s). The main one is set by the domain report.legalandgeneral.com and is managed by our agent Red Eye International Ltd. For your information, this particular cookie cannot be used or accessed by any company besides Legal & General.

Please note that should you block all cookies, you may not be able to use some of the forms on our site. If you block our tracking cookie only, your use of our site during a session should not be affected.

Security facts

We use the latest secure server software that encrypts (turns into code) all information you give us before you send it to us. This means the information you send to us, using our website, stays private and secure while it is being sent.

If you send us an email from your private mailbox, we cannot guarantee the security of the content until we actually receive it. For that reason, please do not send an unsecured email with confidential information such as your National Insurance or bank account numbers from outside our website.

Likewise, if we send an email to your mailbox, for example to reply to an enquiry, we cannot guarantee it will stay private once the email has left us.

This means that we do not accept responsibility for the security of emails outside our systems, or accept liability if anything happens to your emails (for example, if they are intercepted) outside our systems.

If you ask us to email you information that is personal or confidential, we may need to ask you for extra information to check your identify and to give your authority to send that information to you. We have to do this under the Data Protection Act.
